Module description
This module will introduce various, mainly life-science oriented, approaches to the archaeological analysis of human beings (osteology, paleopathology, diet, genetics, demography) and of past environments, resources and subsistence (geoarchaeology, zooarchaeology, and archaeobotany; also field sampling strategies).
Objectives and Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this course, a student should:
1. be familiar with the forms of evidence available to reconstruct past environments and past human biology, and with case studies where these forms of evidence have been collected and analysed;
2. understand the main ways in which the life sciences are used to interpret archaeological material;
3. be familiar with the archaeological record of major ecological and economic transitions.
Teaching methods
The course is taught through lectures and practicals.Ìý Students will be divided into smaller groups for practical sessions.ÌýÌý
