Description
Design and Creative Practice Year 3 is driven by an interest in interdisciplinary research-based practice that looks outside of the institution and promotes public facing, socially engaged projects. Throughout the year students explore and experiment with strategies for creating projects that are sustainable within a wide cultural context, whilst collectively exploring a theme relating to architecture and the built environment.
In line with the ethos of Architectural and Interdisciplinary Studies, in which students have the opportunity toÌýtailor theirÌýeducational experienceÌýby selecting their own modules, we encourage students to take the lead. Projects are developed through collaboration and conversation within the peer group and with the guidance and direction of the tutors. Due to the broad range of research topics and multiple disciplines explored in the module we aim to invite external practitioners with specific skills or areas of expertise to contribute to the group discussions through a series of workshops, screening and talks.Ìý
The module starts in term 1 with a series of short projects that are often carried out in pairs or larger groups. Building on the outcomes of these initial projects students then have the opportunity to develop their own brief in response to a specific strand of research initiated in term 1.Ìý
