Description
Aims:
- To provide an understanding of particle technology;
- To provide an understanding of the principles of particulate separation processes and related processes;
- To develop skills in the design of practical separation equipment in the context of sustainability and sustainable development
Learning Outcomes:
On completion of this module students should:
- be able to understand the mass and heat transfer phenomena involved in particulate processes and related processes;
- be familiar with the procedures for the design of separation equipment in the context of sustainability and sustainable development;
- be able to select an appropriate separation process to meet a required separation performance
Synopsis:
- Fundamentals of particle technology including charaterisation of particle size, shape and size distribution, flow through packed beds and porous media;
- Fundamentals of humidification, dehumidification, cooling and drying;
With a focus on particle formation processes, solid-liquid separation processes, membrane separations and chromatography consider:
- Estimation of thermodynamic properties;
- Design and analysis methodologies;
