Description
Teaching Delivery: This module is taught in 20 bi-weekly lectures and 30 tri-weekly PGTA-led seminars.
Content: An introduction to the ancient Greek language, including the study of grammar, principles of sentence construction and the reading of selected texts. The module aims to provide students with a knowledge of Classical Greek language and principles of sentence construction sufficient to translate simple passages of Greek prose into English and simple English phrases and sentences into Greek. Two classes per week will be split into small groups, each group taught by a Postgraduate Teaching Assistant.
Skills: Students should be trained in translating Greek texts into English and English sentences into Greek, learning vocabulary and studying Greek grammar and syntax.ÌýBy the end of the module students are expected to have reached a level approximately equivalent to Beginners Greek, chapter 7A-C
Introductory reading: Students are invited to familiarize themselves with the Greek alphabet, pronunciation, accents and breathings, punctuation and transliteration.Ìý
