Module Content and Indicative TopicsÌý
This module aims to introduce students to some of the major Nordic literary texts from 1800 to the present day. The aim is to develop students’ familiarity with a range of theoretical approaches to literature by way of considering the works under the three themes of Gender, Space and Genre. Students will have the opportunity to read texts written in their chosen Scandinavian language as well as to familiarise themselves with texts in other Scandinavian languages. For those students with no previous knowledge of a mainland Scandinavian language, all texts will be available in English translation.Ìý
Teaching DeliveryÌý
The module is taught over ten weeks (2 hours a week). Each session is a combination of lecture and seminar discussions. Students are required to read one primary text per week as well as at least one secondary source. Information about the required weekly preparation is provided on Moodle. Throughout the module, students also encouraged to submit small formative tasks which will prepare them for the assessment.Ìý
