‘Health Economics’ is a module aiming to provide an introduction to key concepts in health economics that support decision-makers at local, national, and international levels, to maximise health outcomes given scarce available health care resource.

More specifically, you should be able to do the following after successfully completing this module:

1. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the principles of scarcity, choices and opportunity cost and their relevance to health care
2. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of microeconomics applied to health and health care
3. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the principles and methods of economic evaluation in health care

This is an advanced module and is optional for Year 3 students on the BSc Population Health Sciences programme. The module will also be open to a limited number of students from other departments. Spaces are limited. The module is only available in Term 2 of the academic year.

This module will be assessed through a written examination (two hours duration), to be held in the third term; there is no coursework. ÌýÌý

The exam will consist of two parts, A and B. Part A will comprise five short-answer questions and students will be required to answer all five questions. Part B will consist of five essay questions and students will be required to answer any two questions.Ìý
