Description
Content:
This module considers the teacher to be a leader of learning and even where there is a fully articulated curriculum (for example in schools in the UK: the National Curriculum) that the teacher is recognised as the author of the curriculum. A ‘teacher’ is anyone responsible for designing a curriculum to meet the needs of learners in different settings. This could include a nurse practitioner with responsibility for training others or a trainer for a group such as a Non-Governmental Organisation which is developing a programme for others to participate in.
Teaching delivery:
This module is taught online and will run in the Autumn term, in the Spring term or in the Summer term 2024-25.
Indicative topics:
The module consists ofÌýfour units which focuses on the following areas:
1. Curriculum Design and Development;
2. Pedagogy and Assessment in Curriculum;
3. Investigating Curriculum and
4. An Inclusive and Global Curriculum.
Module Aims:
- To encourage creativity and innovation in terms of the design and development of curriculum, taking into account the opportunities and constraints at both local and national levels;
- To encourage collaborative and reflexive approaches in the process of curriculum design and development strategies;
- To enable connections to be made between relevant literature in the field and the practice of curriculum design and development;
- To enable creative links between pedagogy, curriculum, and assessment with specific reference to curriculum writing and design;
- To critically examine notions of ‘effective practice’ in curriculum design;
- To develop authentic voice as authors of curriculum;
- To enable practitioners to explore the practices of curriculum writing within varied local, national and global contexts.
