Media equipment loan service for UCL academic staff
About the staff loan service
If you are academic staff, and听need to create media content to support your teaching and research, you can now use our media equipment loan service.听All equipment听comes in a handy carry case which includes:听power supply and memory card听(for cameras), battery charger, battery, remote control, and all necessary leads to connect to your computer. We try and combine items into kits which will include a microphone, tripod, and LED light as required. If you have very specific kit requirements,听the team听has an extensive knowledge of products and great relationships with our suppliers, with the ability to purchase many items with an education听discount.听If you wish to purchase any items we are happy to assist you in this process.
When borrowing an听item from our stock, you assume听full responsibility for it and are expected to return it in the same condition as it was loaned to you in. Departments or individuals听will be charged for any missing or broken items. Please read see the terms of service听before borrowing any equipment.

- Where do I go to collect/return equipment?
The Educational Media team running this service听is听based in the听Cruciform Building. Please听enter the Cruciform through our听entrance on Huntley Street.听Collections and returns are made from听Room G.08a
- What are your opening hours?
For the loan service our opening hours are from听10.00 am - 12.30 pm, and 1.30 pm - 4.00 pm听on Mondays and Wednesdays. Loans are issued by appointment only to ensure all safety conditions can be met - please don't turn up without an appointment. Currently听we are still operating听a restricted听service due to staff availability but we will try our utmost to assist all staff where we can.
- How long can I borrow equipment for?
Loans are currently听available for a maximum of 5 days as听we only have a limited amount of equipment.听To ensure everyone can access the equipment they need we ask that you return all equipment as soon as you can.
Bookings must be made at least two days in advance.听To book a slot for collection, contact the听team.听Once your booking is confirmed, this is your听appointment time, if you miss it听we may have difficulty in offering you another time slot. Items must be returned听on the date and time agreed.
If you require technical support whilst loaning the听equipment this can be done remotely if听required, or please state you need assistance when booking and we will where听possible allow extra time.
- Can I specify what equipment I want?
Wherever possible we will try to provide users with the equipment they request but this cannot be guaranteed. It will听depend on our stock levels and the fact that we are still putting the kit into听quarantine (72 hours) after use and need time to undertake the subsequent cleaning听of all returned items.
Please note: Lavalier Microphones听are relatively inexpensive and may be听purchased via IDT through UCL Marketplace, the team will advise if you wish to purchase. All Shotgun microphones, windshields, stands and Boom Poles are generally only available as part of a kit
