This guide to UCL SSEES Library's archive collections is arranged by three letter alphabetical code relating to the titles of collections i.e. Alexander Collection is "ALE".
The titles of collections are the names of the person or organisation whose papers form the collection, the person, place or organisation they concern, or the title of a manuscript or album of photographs. The date range given by collection titles below indicate the date range of the contents of the collection rather than the life span of the individual or organisation.
Information given for each collection (where available):
- Brief background details of the person or organisation with whom the collection is concerned, where applicable references to bibliographic sources are given.
- Availability of more detailed lists in Library and links to on-line lists where available.
- Brief details of the contents and a date range of contents.
- Physical description (i.e. 1 volume, 250 pp) and note on condition of material where applicable.
- Languages of material.
- Access restrictions, most collections are in the "Access unrestricted" category and may be consulted in the Library without special permission.
- Special copyright conditions. For the majority of collections, copyright is held by the creator of the material rather than UCL SSEES, therefore copyright legislation of the country in which the material was created applies.
- Details of publications are given where part of a collection has been published or has been used to produce a publication.
- Related material, "See also" references to related archive collections both within UCL SSEES Library and in other repositories are given. Links to related collections or repositories are given where available.
